Interesting that Lois Jean worked for 5 days and made just over $8, that combined with her Christmas money $4.25 she will get a jacket.

Letter from Lois Jean arrives. Effects of the war seem to be felt less here with movies, shopping, and formals being the highlight of the day. Communities of family were quite common during this time as referenced by the comment of 4 Frank families living all in a row.

Another letter arrives from Struthers, Ohio. In some ways life seems pretty normal for the kids in Ohio, but there is still the constant reminder that these are war times with gas rationing and boys in the army.

I wonder if Lois Jean caught a cold from wrapping her wet hair in curlers. Thank goodness for modern styling tools like blow dryers and curling irons. 10-26-42 IMG_4835 2015_10_07_16_56_24 2015_10_07_16_56_42

Lois mentions the collection of letters from her pen-pals. It seems surreal that my Aunt’s “systematic” method of storage is what makes this collection of letters so unique and possible for me to share them now 73 years later. I am sure that Patricia had no idea what a treasure she was creating. I wonder where my Aunt’s letters to Lois stored in a large tin box are today? Do they still exist?
